Saab Acquires DAMDIC Manufacturer Nordic Defence Industries

Saab has acquired Nordic Defence Industries (NDI), the Danish naval company that designs and manufactures the DAnish Mine DIsposal Charge (DAMDIC) mine disposal charge. The Royal Australian Navy utilises the DAMDIC system for mine disposal deploying them from the powerful and flexible Double Eagle Mk II Mine Disposal System deployed from the HUON Class Minehunter Coastal ships.

The acquisition of Nordic Defense Industries further develops Saab's leadership in the unmanned underwater domain when it comes to regional reach, technology and innovative solutions. The combination of Saab's experience and knowledge from the AUV/ROV (Autonomous Underwater Vehicle/Remotely Operated Vehicle) market and NDI's innovative mine disposal solutions will create a unique MCM house within Saab.

BlueZone CEO, Neil Hodges said that with the integration of NDI into Saab Dynamics within its Underwater Systems business unit provided a strong through-life support capability for the RAN. "BlueZone group company, ATSA Defence Services, has supported the Double Eagle for the RAN since 2000," said Neil, "And we look forward to working even more closely with Saab and NDI to provide continuing excellence in our support for this critical system for Navy minewarfare capability."
The Double Eagle Mine Disposal Vehicle has the capability to accurately deploy the DAMDIC mine disposal charge for neutralisation of seabed mines in the harsh ocean conditions.
