Productive Partnership between BlueZone and St Philip’s Christian College

BlueZone is again pleased to support a team from St Philip’s Christian College for the SUBS in Schools Technology Challenge™. SUBS in Schools Technology Challenge™ is the result of collaboration between REA, the Department of Defence and industry stakeholders including the Australian Submarine Corporation and Saab Australia. The program enables students to explore the complex challenges of maritime engineering and hydrodynamics using coding and electronics as they design and build operational submarines and ROV’s.

The St Philip’s 2020 team is known as Trident Systems and they have entered in the 2020 Subs in Schools STEM Challenge. Tridents Systems team members include:

  • Jack Frazer (Team Manager)
  • Oliver Taylor (Manufacturing Engineer)
  • Angus Clayton (CAD/CAM Engineer)
  • William Pennell (Student coach & 2019 competitor)

There are 2 other team members (Resource Manager & Graphic Designer), who were not needed for construction & testing phase at the BlueZone workshops.

Trident Systems was hosted and supervised by BlueZone Electrical Engineer, Curtis Schur. The facilities at the BlueZone workshop at Newcastle supported the team in constructing and testing their submarine model. BlueZone provides support for Royal Australian Navy systems including Remotely Operated Vehicles (ROVs) for Mine Countermeasures and other Uncrewed Maritime systems for surface and subsea Navy applications.
